Publication Design: Modus Operandi
Modus Operandi Lifestyle Magazine is clean and elegant, an environment of calm and a place to slow down. The layout is spacious and artistic, where awkward aligns with beauty. The goal was to push the boundaries of classic magazine styles by trying things differently. I was driven by modern and classic art seen in every medium and used this to create the guidelines for the vision of this new magazine vision.
The pages are thick and textured to heighten the viewers senses along side transparent pullouts to help see things in a new way. I seek to share the voices behind the work you see, offering an experience and perspective only found in Modus Operandi.
My goal for this brief was to create a magazine inspired by the clean and elegant Kinfolk magazine. I love the idea of slowing down and creating a calm environment for the readers. My goal was for the creative professional audience to sit back, take a moment and be inspired through a relaxed vibe. Each month I will offer different themes for the magazine and search out people and companies inspiring to me knowing the audience would appreciate them as well.

The style guide was created with the magazine’s audience in mind. The colors to the photos, to the typefaces, bringing the bold, artistic and calm experience intended for the magazine.
The focus for Modus Operandi Lifestyle Magazine was to bring awareness to the masses about creative culture and share more of the work behind the ideas we see out in the world. The first issue idea is the art issue, where I highlight my favorite artists from many different mediums. I chose to write 2 articles about artists I respect and are immensely inspired by and was able to share new art with the people who got to see these first edits; it was very rewarding to see that it was already making an impact. Also I designed the Aesop ad on the back cover as a way to sharpen my Photoshop skills.
A mock up of the 2 column style layout was chosen to give white space on the pages sharing its clean and elegant aesthetic. An environment to give breathe and mental space, allowing the reader to take in each article, different from pages fully filled with text and photographs.
